Disney unveiled the first teaser for the upcoming ‘Moana’ live-action film, which introduces Catherine Laga’aia as the new Moana and shares a small glimpse of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as Maui.

The Moana franchise kicked off with 2016’s animated musical film, featuring Auliʻi Cravalho as the voice of the titular character. Moana 2 came out in November 2024, bringing back the original cast.

The live-action film follows Moana as she “answers the Ocean’s call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with the infamous demigod Maui (Johnson) on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.”

Johnson, who confirmed he would reprise the role in 2023, shared: “This story is my culture, and this story is emblematic of our people’s grace, mana and warrior strength. I wear our culture proudly on my skin and in my soul, and this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reunite with Maui, inspired by the spirit of my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, is one that runs very deep for me.”

The live-action version of ‘Moana’ premieres in theaters on July 10, 2026; see the teaser trailer: HERE.
