Indianapolis Colts sign veteran safety Nasir Adderley as he returns from retirement

Veteran safety Nasir Adderley is making his return to professional football after stepping away from the game, signing with the Indianapolis Colts just months after announcing his comeback.

The 28-year-old originally retired in 2023 at just 25, shortly after completing his rookie contract with the Los Angeles Chargers. At the time, he emphasized that his “health is above anything and everyone around me knows that.” During his time away, Adderley focused on personal priorities, later sharing that “health, family, and entrepreneurship were my top priorities, and I’m proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish.”

In February, Adderley revealed his intention to return, explaining, “The freedom to manage my own schedule was very important to me, but what I didn’t realize was how much I’d miss having football in my life. The competition, the brotherhood, and just being involved in the game that means so much to me and my family. Therefore, I am officially announcing my intention to return to the NFL.”

A second-round pick in 2019, Adderley spent four seasons with the Chargers, appearing in 50 games with 44 starts. Over his career, he recorded more than 230 tackles, along with three interceptions, multiple pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. Now in Indianapolis, Adderley enters a crowded and competitive safety group. The Colts have already added veterans Jonathan Owens and Juanyeh Thomas this offseason, while also bringing back young players like Hunter Wohler. With one starting spot still unsettled alongside Camryn Bynum, Adderley will have an opportunity to compete for a role.
